Certain spaces of the home lend themselves to cosiness more than others. With their vaulted ceilings and unique location within the house, lofts and attics have the power to be an especially comforting space. However, one often finds that their windows are in an unusual place or have a special shape. It is in these parts of the home where DIY shutters really come into their own.
Why Loft Shutters?
That’s a great question, with more than one answer. Firstly, unlike curtains and blinds, our plantation shutters are made to the exact specification of your windows and will sit super flush. Not only does this work to exclude draughts, but it also means they will seamlessly blend in with any window – no matter the shape. But that’s not all. Shutters offer this, and much more:
- Heat regulation
- Kerb appeal
- Light and privacy management
- Easy of measuring and fitting (more on this below)
How About Loft Shutter Styles?
The great thing about opting for loft shutters is their versatility. For full coverage, Full Height shutters cover the entirety of the window. For almost full blackout, our Solid Shaker are great shutters for dormer windows. Conversely, our Café Style shutters only cover the bottom section of your window. However, these may not be suitable for most loft windows as they are usually much smaller than the windows found elsewhere in the home.
…And Velux Windows?
It is almost always possible, yes. Our frames are fitted with magnets, while a latch and hook mechanism can be bought separately and fixed onto the shutter. This helps keep the panels safely in place. When purchasing lost shutters, but sure to let a member of our team know that you are measuring up for a Velux window so that we can point you in the right direction.
Are They Easy to Measure and Fit?
The short answer is, “yes!” and the long answer is, “yes, definitely!” Whether you’re looking for sash, special shaped, or dormer window shutters, we’ve got you covered. Our measuring and installing guides are very easy to follow and all you need for fitting is a hammer, screwdriver, drill, and spirit level.
Loft Shutter Colours
White plantation shutters are by far the most popular choice among our customers. This is because white goes with virtually any colour or style, thus outlasting existing trends. If you are going for something a bit more rustic, our wood stains offer a look that is at once classic and bold. For the widest selection of colours, our Natural Hardwood shutters come in 13 colours, 11 stains, and 4 limewash finishes. If you’re still unsure, why not order some samples?
