How to Improve Your Window Privacy

2:24PM 29 July 2022

We all value our privacy. It’s why our houses have doors, and it’s why we dress our windows. And the importance of dressing a window really can’t be understated. After all, windows serve as our home’s eyes to the outside world. Not only should they look good, but they also need to grant you privacy. The last thing you want is some lookie-loo peering through and seeing into your home. Not only is this unsettling, but it can have very real security implications too. Therefore, we’ve decided to write up a quick blog to give you some window privacy ideas. So, what type of window dressings are best for privacy? Well…

Improve Your Window Privacy with DIY Shutters

It probably won’t shock you to learn that DIY shutters are the best window coverings for privacy. Why not curtains or blinds? Well, first off, shutters are built to last, saving you money in the medium and long term. Secondly, they’re made to measure exactly to the dimensions of your windows. Finally, shutters come in a range of styles, so you’ll always find a design to meet your needs.

Full Height

Full height shutters cover the entirety of your window. With their movable slats, you can have as much or as little light coming into your home as you like. For complete privacy, keep the panels closed. If you’d like to let more light in during the day, the panels can swing open to rest against the wall.

Café Style

An even more bespoke option, café style shutters usually cover the bottom half of the window, but they can stop at any point of your window. This grants a balance between privacy and light management, brightening your room while still acting as a barrier between you and the outside world.

Tier-On-Tier

The best of both worlds, tier-on-tier shutters are perfect for if you’re struggling to decide on style.  These versatile shutters consist of two sections: one on top and one bottom. This allows you to open out the panels separately, leaving the bottom closed while the top is open. They essentially function the same as café style shutters when the top section is open, and as full height when both sections are closed. Win-win, right?

Solid Shutters

Our solid shutters are comprised of panels of wood, with no movable slats. If you’re looking for window coverings for privacy, then you can’t get much more private than this.

Are Shutters Easy to Install?
