How to use 2017’s Pantone colour: Greenery

We love 2017’s Pantone colour – this optimistic yellow-green is perfect for refreshing your home décor. For interior colour inspiration, check out our expert tips and advice on how to use this calming shade at home

Pic Right: Farrow & Ball

Transform a room by painting walls

The great thing about Greenery is that it has a touch of yellow in it, meaning it will make all rooms, particularly living spaces and bedrooms, feel light and bright, however much (or little) daylight they receive. And, because it’s a reflective colour, it will make even light-starved or tiny rooms feel spacious and welcoming. So, use a matt paint on the walls, pairing it with deeper shades of green and naturals with touches of aubergine for a relaxed feel, or with black, navy and white for a smart finish.

Add Greenery with wallpaper

If colour-blocking isn’t your thing or if you want to add interest to all-green walls, there are tons of wallpapers – particularly on-trend foliage-inspired designs – in the perfect shade of green. Use it in panels, in alcoves or on a chimney breast of living rooms and bedrooms to create a feature wall that oozes interest. Or, put it behind a clear-glass splashback in a kitchen, or choose a wipeable design for behind a roll top bath – assuming you don’t have kids who make bath time a splash-fest.

Put Greenery at the windows

Whether you’re going for green on walls and at the windows – or just want to add a splash of colour with window dressings – get your shutters colour-matched with us to exactly the right shade. Perfect for creating a relaxed atmosphere in a bedroom, this shade for shutters will look cool in contemporary and country kitchens, too.

Splash on colour with upholstery

You don’t need to decorate a neutral or all-white room to create a dramatic transformation: simply re-upholster a sofa or armchair in a bold green. Velvet is very fashionable at the moment and looks gorgeous in Greenery. On a budget? Re-cover your sofa or armchair with a large throw in this beautiful shade.

Take a paintbrush to furniture

If you want a quick, affordable transformation, why not paint a piece of furniture in green? Painting a cabinet in a hallway, a wardrobe in a kid’s bedroom or even previously plain dining chairs can create a contemporary new look that will only take a couple of hours to complete.

Be bold in the bathroom

Greenery is the perfect shade for a bathroom, especially if matched with natural tones to create a warm but smart look. For best effect, don’t go all green. Instead, take a paintbrush to the underside of a roll top bath, match the shade with patterned towels, add a house plant or two… even shop for green toiletries.

Use accessories to refresh your rooms

If your rooms are plain and neutral, adding a few pops of colour in accessories, such as rugs, table settings, cushions, bedlinen and paintings is a no-effort approach that can make a dramatic difference. Start subtly, layering the scheme until you have the balance just right.

Add natural green with foliage

It only takes a houseplant – or even some faux foliage – to add a very effective touch of Greenery to a plain room. While you’re on the case, clear windowsills of clutter, and fold back your shutters to show off the garden, blurring the green boundary between indoors and out.
