Shutters are Eco Friendly - Why ?
Wooden Shutters can help reduce your heating bills. Studies and reports have shown that they can improve insulation in the home. This is one of the factors which can help reduce household bills, especially important at a time when fuel costs are rising so rapidly.
In 2010 Edinburgh World Heritage undertook a thermal imagery test which concluded that if wooden shutters are closed at dusk, heat leakage through large Victorian and Georgian windows was effectively stopped.
The image opposite shows hot areas in red where the shutters are open and heat is escaping. Upstairs the shutters are closed and the windows are shown in the same blue as are the other colder external surfaces.
The BBC News also covered the story, and reported that wooden shutters when closed ‘act like double glazing’.
